Local Meat Raised with Sunshine
In such a large, growing country, we have gotten used to the idea of animals raised in confinement that never get out in the fresh air and sunshine. At Rose Valley Farm, we want to be part of the solution. Our meat chickens are raised in our wooded land where they can scratch for bugs, bask in the sunshine, and get exercise and our meat rabbits are raised outside with fresh grass and clover to eat.
Meat Chickens
Our meat chickens are raised outdoors in the fresh air with room to roam. This means they are leaner, have more vitamins and minerals, and helped to take care of our woodland.

These are the classic supermarket chickens. They are about one third breast meat and should taste very familiar. Not everyone wants to jump straight to heritage chickens when exploring healthier options, so a Cornish Cross raised in a healthy way is a good first step
-
Freedom Rangers are a great breed for people who want even healthier option for chicken. These are slower growing, but that means they are much healthier birds and spend most of their day foraging and exploring instead of sitting around. They will be more flavorful and have more dark meat than the Cornish Cross
-
Heritage chickens are very hard to find for sale, because they are very slow growing. However, they are full of classic chicken flavor and are a very sustainable chicken that we can hatch right from our flock rather than needing to be shipped from a hatchery. These are smaller, but full of vitamins and minerals, with a great flavor and meatier texture
Meat Rabbits
Rabbits are not a very popular meat in America almost exclusively due to the invention of the Cornish Cross meat chicken taking over the white meat market. Rabbit meat is enjoyed across the globe, but particularly in Mediterranean countries and East Asia. Rabbit meat is both the leanest type of meat as well as the highest protein. It is also full of vitamins and minerals and is sustainable, because we do not need to rely on a hatchery. If you’re worried about a “gamey” flavor that many people associate with hunted rabbits, farmed rabbits are very different. They have an almost identical flavor and texture to chicken breast meat.
-
Rabbit meat can be hard to find and is often sold whole. For those who are trying it for the first time, this is very intimidating, so we offer our meat portioned out.
-
This is a healthy, lean cut of meat that is almost identical to boneless, skinless chicken breast. If you want to try rabbit, but are a first timer, or not sure about it, this is the way to go.
-
If you want a hearty winter stew or enjoy grilling/smoking meat, try out a whole rabbit. This will come ready to cook.
